About This Dog for Adoption
Betsy's ideal home
If you are after a loyal sidekick with a love for snuggles and a nose for adventure, Betsy might be your perfect match. This lovely 7-and-a-half-year-old Spaniel x Poodle is looking for a home where she can be the only dog, with people who will advocate for her and help her feel safe when other dogs are about.
Betsy is happy to live with children aged 5 and over and has a lovely track record of being gentle and friendly with younger ones during family visits. However, a private, secure garden is a must, and she will need to stay on lead in public at all times, as she does not like other dogs in her space and can be reactive if they get too close. She cannot live with cats.
Once settled, she can be left alone for a couple of hours, and she travels well either in the back seat or the boot - calm, composed, and ready for the next sniff-filled stroll!
Could you be Betsy's perfect match?
Betsy is a gentle soul who may be shy at first but give her a (sniffing) moment and you will soon see her affectionate side. Once she knows you, she is a cuddle bug who loves a fuss and will happily curl up with you on the sofa.
Betsy thrives on being able to sniff and potter about, though you might need to call her name a few times before she looks up from her scent adventures. She is relaxed seeing dogs at a distance, but she does not like them getting too close. She is at her happiest knowing her people will calmly guide her away from situations she finds overwhelming. In her previous home, she did show jealous guarding behaviours towards a particular dog, but she has never shown any guarding around people.
She is housetrained, knows the basics, and her recall is good - especially when needing to move away from other dogs. She enjoys toys, especially a ball or a stick, and is more toy driven than treat focused.
Betsy is good for vet visits and grooming, and she accepts handling well from familiar people. She enjoys company, values reassurance, and will look to her people for guidance when faced with the unexpected. If you can offer Betsy a dog-free home, a steady routine and plenty of love you will be rewarded with a loyal companion who is happiest by your side.
This dog is currently being rehomed under our Home Stay scheme. Under this scheme, the dog stays with their current owner until the point of adoption, when the ownership transfers briefly to Dogs Trust and then to the new adopters. The benefits of Home Stay for a dog are that it minimises disruption and prevents the dog having to come into kennels, however there is the potential the owner may pull out of the scheme prior to adoption. We understand the upset this may cause to potential adopters, and we work closely with the owners to minimised the likelihood of this. However, it remains a possibility, and should this occur, Dogs Trust will prioritise finding adopters an alternative dog.
