About This Dog for Adoption
Colin's ideal home
Colin is a sweet young Poodle cross with a big heart and a unique outlook on the world, as he is blind. He is looking for a very dedicated and understanding home where his adopters are prepared to give him the stability, patience and commitment he deserves and are willing to learn about caring for a dog with additional needs. Because Colin navigates life without sight, he will need a home with a fully secure garden and a calm environment where he can feel safe while learning his surroundings. He would need to live in a quieter location such as a small town or peaceful residential area, with access to calmer walking routes away from busy roads and heavy traffic vibrations, which can make him worried. Colin would benefit from an adult-only household with minimal visitors and very limited leaving hours, as he finds comfort in having people around and strongly relies on a predictable routine. While he could potentially live with another confident, friendly dog who enjoys play, he may also be happiest as the only dog in the home. His new family will need to be ready to support his ongoing training, including continuing his lead walking with a guide handle and helping him build confidence gradually. A patient adopter who is happy to create a structured home environment and routine will be of massive benefit to Colin, keeping things like food bowls, sleeping areas and daily activities consistent. Colin will need a set up that allows for his world to start small to help him know where he is and to keep him safe and his potential adopters should be happy to use pens and babygates to help him.
Could you be Colin's perfect match?
Even though he lives with a disability, Colin is an incredibly affectionate and endearing companion who forms strong bonds with the people he loves. His absolute favourite thing in the world is a cuddle, he loves draping himself across your lap and falling asleep. Colin is content with simply being close to his person, making him a wonderfully loyal and devoted friend. He also has a playful side and adores games of tug with soft toys. During play he sometimes may grab onto sleeves or arms thinking they are toys, but he redirects easily when given the right toy to hold instead. Colin is a sociable boy who loves meeting people and will excitedly sniff them out to say hello. He is clever too, quickly mapping his environment and learning his way around spaces. With patient guidance, gentle encouragement and plenty of tactile reassurance, Colin will continue to grow in confidence and blossom into an incredibly special companion. For the right person who is willing to embrace his additional needs and give him the closeness and structure he craves, Colin will offer endless affection, loyalty and heart-melting cuddles.
